I agree a Summon killed by a very weak sub-boss. Oh well, you do get a new rather cool summon.

Really, I really need to buy me a copy of XI. I have heard good things but was never able to find the time to start playing it.

I am not sure about this but I think that Shiva, Irifit and Bahamut have already been confirmed, I am not sure about any others.

As for me I personally wanna see Phoenix and Odin make theier series reappearance in this game.

I was annoyed in FFX that they got replaced by the useless weakling Valefor and the money grubbing git called Yojimbo.

Phoenix and Odin > Valefor and Yojimbo anytime in coolness, looks and usefulness.

Also I am wondering if you will be to control the summons just like the characters, you know like in FFX.

The one's that have been confirmed are Shiva Ifrit Carbunkle and Siren, im glad they are bringing an old one like Siren back i think she was last used in 6 or 7, and my favorite way to summon was in 10 too

I never even heard of them putting summons in ffxiii. If they do I don't think it's going to be like any previous FF games, the system in it is suppose to be totally new and legit.
If they do I hope they put Odin in, and i'm sure we'll see Ifrit, and Shiva, possibly several forms of Bahamut.
