For all of you who cannot have enough of the Nintendo Wii, there is a great piece of information. The next generation Nintendo Wii or the Wii 2 is supposedly as close to commercial launch as 2011! And this despite Nintendo going on record to state that the next Wii is still a ‘long way’ away.

While Nintendo has not confirmed or denied these latest Wii ‘rumors’, you can be sure that something is surely in the works. And Nintendo may simply be keeping mum over the issue, to take gamers all over the world by surprise and hence add to the novelty value of the Wii.

What’s new in Nintendo Wii 2 Console

The current reports suggest that the Wii 2 will have HD output and also a Blu-ray drive built in, among other upgrades which are yet to be revealed. This is obviously good news if you have thus far been using the Wii on an HDTV without actually being able to play HD games, while your friend with a PS3 has been happily enjoying 3D gaming on his console, much to your agony!

And if the new Wii is HD enabled it will be able to take on the PS3 and Xbox much better. Although the Wii has managed to sell more than 30 million units till date, it needs to bulk up and not rest on its laurels, if it wants to maintain the same sort of track record.

Considering that the current Wii only supports 480p video, it is about time that some upgrading is done.

But what is the rationale of putting in a Blu-Ray drive?

Certainly Nintendo is aware of the fact that Blu-ray as a optical media has not been able to make the sort of impact it was touted to. Moreover, the future of console gaming is digital downloads from online stores. So, perhaps this is just an option rather than a major feature in the Wii 2.

If Nintendo is really planning this HD Wii, it will have to bring out the product soon, because if the price of the PS3 drops below $299, Nintendo will have a tough time in putting a competitive price tag on the Wii. Add to that the fact that the PlayStation Move Controller is coming soon to give the same motion controlled gaming experience to users as the Wii, and you have Nintendo between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully they have a trick or two up their sleeves!

Ahh well, competition is needed to get the consoles improved and made stronger. I hope they do it soon myself. The current console is on it's knees.

I have some insight from my friend That I think you will all find funny about Wii2

So the Japanese word for 2 is Ni (pronounced like knee)

So they're coming out with the Wiini lol

It is going to be a while still I think. There were rumors it was this year, but that didn't happen. SO they rumor next year now, but I think it will be about 2012. It has only been about 5 years.

where did you see that info about skyward sword release date dp? i havnt found any info like that come from gamescon

I love the idea of revamping Golden Eye but I don't see them doing it that well for some reason.

Well the date could be wrong, but I got that from wal-marts website. If you pre order, it will be shipped on that date. Usually they dont ship pre orders until the game is released. I figure that could be a solid indicator. If it isn't announced in the next couple of months though, I will take that date off.

ahh ok, then no thats not a solid indicator lol, sorry DP. those dates are just placeholders and are often not reliable. I remember FF13 was up for pre order 2 years before the game was released and the date just get pushed back. Until its officially released its just a guess.

It should be no surprise that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is one of my most highly desired Wii titles. Upon it being unveiled at Nintendo’s E3 2010 Press Conference I immediately fell in love with the new art style. The new sword controls looked fantastic and the new items seemed very fun.

I then waited on line for over an hour at E3 just to get a chance to play the game. I did enjoy the new sword mechanics. As reported previously, Link is now right handed, as he was in Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Wii, so all the sword controls took advantage of the player swinging the Wii Remote with the Motion Plus accessory. Having to kill enemies by attacking the correct way with the sword was great and added a new combat element that just hasn’t been in the series before. This still has me very excited since I’m sure there are a number of things players have yet to see regarding how this sword element works.

It was then that I decided to try out how the Bow works in Skyward Sword. This is where I came across a major control issue. Upon switching to the Bow or Slingshot item I then learned that Link is not right handed at all. Link is actually ambidextrous. You see when using the Bow Link holds it as if he were left handed.

This wouldn’t be much of an issue if Link just appeared to be using the bow left handed, but it was then for the first time ever that I felt the pain of every left handed person in the world. That is the player must use the bow and arrow controls as though they are a lefty no matter what. I found the controls to be completely awkward and clumsy to use in this manner.

If anyone wants to know exactly how it feels then all they would have to do is boot up Wii Sports Resort and to play Archery left handed. You see the when playing Archery in Wii Sports Resort the player has to hold the Wii Remote in their offhand. The Nunchuck controller goes in the players dominate hand.

In the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword the player has to be holding the Wii Remote in their right hand forcing a left handed Bow control scheme. I know Shigeru Miyamoto is ambidextrous but myself and others are not. Skyward Sword is still one of my most wanted Wii titles, but I really hope there is another option to these left-handed controls because I found them unbearable.
