Final Fantasy XII FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens and was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from Famitsu.

Default FF12: Many similarities with FF5

I've been a bit nostalgic today and have played many old ff games including FF5. I checked my emulator and found old save files for FF5. (I have original version too but, emulator version is more user friendly sometimes ;) Same goes for FF6).

Anyway, when playing ff5 I remembered that it has many similarities with ff12, the whole sky pirate thing, gilgamesh fight with enkidu in the big bridge (cool theme btw.) + many other things.

What do you guys think about recycling old ideas?

I think it's a good thing at least in this case. It would have been even better in gilgamesh fight if he had drawn "Excalipoor" and cursing his poor sword :D He was more comical character back then... I was kind of hoping that scenario when I hunted him in FF12.

FF12 isn't the first ff game to do so though, take ff9 for instance. I think that has the most reference out of any game tbh. Cloud reference in Lindblum's weapons shop, Cloud/Squall mention in the ending scenes, Kain's lance in the second final area, ff2 reference after you escape alexandria via gargan to name a few.

Plenty more out there to find, but back to 12...

I liked the gilgamesh in 12, really nostalgic fighting him again, liked the second fight in particular... Nearly died D:

Yea that isn't something that happens by accident. lol. The creators do that all the time. In fact 9 was specifically designed to do just that, bring back the nostalgic feel.

yes, ff games have always recycled ideas as we all know.

My point was that, ff12 has more similarities with ff5 than any other ff-game. FF9 was kind of meant to be collaboration of all previous games, but not specifically any single one.

FF12 has many MAJOR similarities with FF5. That was my point.

BTW, wasn't cloud/squall reference optional in FF9?

yes it was. i didn't really see the references back to FF5 but then again it's been a while since I played FF5. I'll have to go back and look.
