Default Why does FF2 not have the ;evel up system?

well i was playing FF2 and i had already knew about there not being the traditional lvl sytem but instead u lvl up each spell and weapon. well i was thinking that this FF was probably the hardest ff cus of the lvl system. and now i am wondering, why did they use that system? i mean yah its fun and i do like the challenge but i would like to know why they didnt use the traditional lvl system. and also if they made FF2 that way why did they decide not to make any other FF games using tht same system?

I think it was because they were experimenting with ways to differentiate the series from similar games ("leveling up? Nah, this is Final Fantasy!").

They didn't stick with it later on, however, because people really disliked it.

it was pretty outta the ordinary when i first played it... and pretty annoying sometimes, especially when changing weapons and spells.

It was very easy to level up your skills just by selecting the action and then cancelling.

This particular level system was incorperated into FFXI. You not only got XP for battles, but during combat your character's combat and magic skills would also level up.

This seemed to be a good fix to a rather poor merit method.

well like said above I do believe it was to do something new to see what wroked and wat didn't, they do it in every Final Fantasy like XII's battle system all together I've seen the weapon and magic LVL one place before in a hidden gem called Secret of Mana from Square in 93 but u also did regular lvl up, I do believe u got the most icons and most of the Vermillion icons from it, there was no Pumplin though lol never beat that game been playing it since it came out 14 yrs ago lol

I didn't find the lvl up system on FF2 difficult. But its really funny on how you get stats from beating your self...But its really easy to lvl once that priest guy joins your party...He heals and you beat him or yourself...btw yah maybe they want to experiment with diff lvl up system take FF 10 for example

I think it was an interesting idea but the idea that you could pick and action and then cancel it and it still lvled you up was a mistake in design. Remember, this was FF in it's infancy. I don't think S-E (Then Squaresoft) meant to make it that way.
